Top 4 Places to Smoke Weed in Denver
Cannabis is legal in Colorado. Even if you live out of state and are just coming to Colorado for a visit. If you are 21 or older you are allowed to purchase up to one ounce of weed at a time, whether you live here or not, due to a recently approved increase. You have to use it all, or ditch what you can’t use, before you leave the state though of course. What is grown in Colorado, stays in Colorado. And while there is 100% legal cannabis all over the city, there are very few places to legally consume that cannabis.
We bet you really want to know where you can take a puff without looking over your shoulder in fear of the police, dont you? Well, you’re in luck – check out our 4 Legal Places to Smoke Weed in Denver.
1. Private Residences
It should be no surprise that residentially zoned areas are the easiest place to use marijuana in Denver. People are allowed to do all sorts of stuff within the boundaries of their own homes – it makes sense that it is legal to consume cannabis there. I mean, sure, it’d be nice to smoke a joint at the local watering hole with your friends, be a little social and participate in the local nightlife. But Denver officials seemingly would rather have legal marijuana consumed inside the home. Period. Just, stay home you stoners. While using cannabis at home is a fine option for folks if they actually live in the city, what is an economic boosting visitor to the Centennial State supposed to do with their newly purchased, very legal pot?
Well, never fear – because if you don’t live in Denver and you don’t have any friends that live here with a back porch you can smoke on, there are a few other places that are legally 420 friendly.
2. 420 Friendly Hotels
This one is tricky. You really want to make sure the hotel you are booking with is marijuana friendly, or you could find yourself looking at some steep damage charges. According to Colorado.gov, “It is up to the discretion of the hotel if it allows marijuana smoke to be consumed in their smoking rooms…Denver city laws prohibit marijuana consumption on hotel balconies if visible from any public place.” Most 420 friendly hotels are not super upfront about their cannabis policy however. The conservative clients at a popular luxury hotel in Denver might not be pleased to know that a few floors up, Cheech and Chong are getting super high on their private balcony. Might put a cramp in their style. So in order to accommodate both the snooty and the stoney, many hotels work on the hush-hush with cannabis friendly hotel booking companies.
Companies that book marijuana friendly rooms have special agreements with the hotels so that their cannabis using clients are not penalized for consuming on hotel property. That way, if your maid comes in to straighten up the room while you are out and about in Denver, and she sees a vaporizer or smells the aroma of marijuana, there is not a dang old thing she or anyone else can do about it. You are SAFE. Which is not likely to be the case if you should choose to try it out and find out if your room is marijuana friendly on your own.
3. 420 Friendly Tours
This option is far less tricky. Tourists and locals alike flock to cannabis tours in Colorado to get an inside look at the legal marijuana industry. These tours give visitors a chance to visit a dispensary or two and purchase flower, concentrates or edible product if they like. Some tours get exclusive access to incredible cannabis grows. That’s right, if you sign up with the right tour operator you can see plants from a world class grows, up close and personal.
The good tour companies provide a smoke friendly bus that allows riders to smoke or vape or eat their newly purchased product without any policia induced paranoia. Remember when selecting your tour provider, while there are a few operators out there, none have been in the game as long as Colorado Cannabis Tours (okay, okay, maybe we are a little biased). And no, it is not a scam. You’d be surprised how often people think that there is no way we could be a legal functioning business. We. Are. A. Legal. And. Functioning. Business. 4. 420 Infused Classes
Want to bake a delicious dessert with weed? There’s a class for that. Want to paint a Bob Ross worthy masterpiece while puffing on some sticky icky? There’s a class for that. Want to blow a glass pipe that you can take with you to smoke out of later? There’s a class for that too. No, really. And as a bonus, many of these classes, depending on the location and the provider, are 420 friendly.
One such class, Puff Pass & Paint (with classes in Denver, Portland, Seattle and most recently Washington, D.C.) allows just that. Show up with a little cannabis or not (there is often a dispensary sponsor) and either host Heidi Keyes or her assistant Chris Eldert will guide you through an epic 2 hour journey of color, cannabis and comrades. If you arrive at the party not knowing anyone you are very likely to go home with several new friends. Plus, the classes are different every week, so repeat visitors are not only welcomed but pleasantly surprised when they paint a completely different masterpiece than the time before.
