National Cannabis Legalization Update

December 22, 2017 by CCT Staff Leave a Comment

2017 is coming to a close and there are more than a handful of states that currently allow for the legal purchase and consumption of recreational marijuana, and even more on board for medical marijuana. But now that the elections are over for 2016, the focus is on, what’s next.

The East Coast

We saw states like Massachusetts and Maine vote for the end of marijuana prohibition, in 2016, and now many of their neighbors are poised to follow. From Vermont to Rhode Island the Eastern seaboard is not taking legal marijuana lightly.

Maryland- In 2014, Maryland passed a law allowing for the medicinal use of marijuana, which was a victory! But now speculations are pointing to all out legalization of marijuana, including recreational usage. With the support of 61% of voters, according to a Washington Post poll in 2016, recreational marijuana has a good chance of passing during the next vote.

While medical marijuana has been a little bit slow moving with getting started, supporters are hoping that with the addition of recreational usage, things would start to move more quickly. Thus far, 15 preliminary licenses to grow, 15 licenses to process marijuana, and 102 approvals to companies have been granted.

Verdict: Look for recreational marijuana on the ballot in 2018 for Maryland!

Rhode Island- This tiny state has a big taste for marijuana. At only 1,212 square miles, the smallest state also had the highest rate of cannabis consumption in 2014 and 2015. With well over 50% of public support in most polls, it seems like a no-brainer that the ocean state could be next to legalize recreational marijuana.

Most recently in 2015, a bill supporting the cause failed to pass. But, after the 2016 election and the win in Massachusetts, Rhode Island’s governor has vowed to take a stronger look at the issue. Since neighboring Massachusetts will be selling legal recreational weed to adults 21 and over, there is a good chance that RI will miss out on revenue and tax money from the cause.

Verdict: Even if the cause is fueled by tax incentives, it is likely to be pushed through to a vote in 2018.

The Midwest

In the middle of America people love their weed just as much as anywhere else. With strong support in even some of the more religious states, cannabis is becoming a more talked about subject throughout the Midwest. There are already a handful of states allowing for medicinal usage of cannabis, but who will be next with recreational use?

Michigan- One of the more liberal states in the Midwest, Michigan has allowed for medical use of marijuana since 2008. Even more recently, cannabis has been decriminalized in the state. With progressive towns like Ann Arbor and Keego Harbor leading the way allowing for the use of recreational marijuana, with little or no consequence, it isn’t hard to see Michigan enacting legal recreational marijuana very soon.

Currently supporters are collecting signatures for the matter to be put on the ballot in 2018. They will need 250,000 signatures for the case to even be taken up by the state, but that’s not out of the question! In a recent poll 57% of voters are looking to pass a law legalizing the recreational use of marijuana.

Verdict: While still in the early stages, the movement to legalize recreational marijuana is stronger than ever. With support and signatures, it very well could come up in the 2018 election.

Missouri- While currently both medical and recreational use of marijuana is illegal in Missouri, steps are being taken to change that. Signatures are being gathered by multiple groups to get marijuana on the ballot in 2018. A solid effort was made for the 2016 election, but was not enough to make it to a vote. Decriminalization of marijuana was however voted through in 2016, and put into place in January 2017. This step in the right direction is a reminder to supporters that legal marijuana is not too far out.

Verdict: 2018 is a possibility for at least medical marijuana and hopefully recreational won’t be far behind.

Updates on the Most Recent Recreational Marijuana States

i love weed

Massachusetts- In 2016 Massachusetts joined the likes of Alaska, California, and Nevada in legalizing the recreational use and sale of marijuana for adults 21 and older. Although this landmark bill passed the public vote there have been a few hiccups since the election. For starters, the governor has signed a bill pushing back opening of recreational dispensaries 6 months. This in turn takes the ability to purchase legally into 2018. There has also been push back from the governor pertaining to the Cannabis Control Commission which is imperative for the budding legal recreational market. For now, sales are scheduled to start in July of 2018 and include taxes from the state, local precinct, and an across the board marijuana tax as well.

California- California has been on the forefront of marijuana use for years. They were the first state to legalize marijuana for medical use in 1996. And even before that it was decriminalized in the state in 1973. But, the biggest win for cannabis enthusiasts in the golden state came at the end of 2016 when it was voted legal for recreational use. Since the vote passed adults 21 and older have been legally allowed to be gifted marijuana or seeds. The big changes will come in 2018 when dispensaries can sell to adults.

For now, you can enjoy marijuana in your private residence, that has been gifted to you of course. Regulations are being formed currently for the new market and are likely to be finalized by the end of the year.

Alaska- Although it is the largest state in the union, it is also one of the least populated. Nonetheless in 2014 Alaska passed a law allowing for the use and sale of recreational marijuana. Measure 2 not only allows for the use of recreational marijuana, but also allows for marijuana cafes. This is a unique to Alaska option, which is hoping to draw in tourism. Since shops have setup for sales legally in 2016 there have been a handful of dispensaries put in place, and more on the way.

DEA Fog “Clarification” Of Hemp Extract Legality

December 20, 2017 by CCT Staff Leave a Comment

On January 13th, 2017 the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) issued the drug code 7350, a new drug code for marijuana extract that went into effect immediately. Drug Code 7350 allows DEA and DEA-registered entities to track quantities of marijuana extract separately from the quantities of marijuana.

In essence, the DEA is creating a new drug code for marijuana extract. How they’re defining the new drug code is as follows, “an extract containing one or more cannabinoids that has been derived from any ‘plant’ of the ‘genus’ Cannabis, other than the separated resin (whether crude or purified) obtained/extracted from the plant.”

As per DEA, the extracts from any part of cannabis remains as a Schedule I controlled substance. When Drug Code 7350 went into effect there was a lot of confusion over the specific implications of the code. Several extracts of the plant only include traces of cannabinoids (CBD) and have huge medical benefits.

Are these included in the new drug code? Additionally, the Controlled Substances Act (CSA) establishes a definition of marijuana, does the new drug code ignore that definition?

The public confusion over Drug Code 7350 prompted the DEA to release a memorandum to clarify the new drug code. Unfortunately, the memorandum did little to clarify the new drug code and only brings up more questions.

Summary of the Memorandum

The Memorandum (memo) makes three broad “clarifications:”

  1. The new code does not include materials or products that are excluded from the definition of marijuana in the CSA.
  2. The new drug code includes only extracts that fall within the CSA definition of marijuana (a little redundant, tbh).
  3. If the product consists solely of parts of the marijuana plant excluded from the CSA definition of marijuana, then it does not fall under the drug code of marijuana extracts (7360).

The DEA is clarifying that this new drug code is not adding any new extracts or materials to the definition of marijuana.

What they are doing is only meant to further “clarify” the separation between:

  • The marijuana plant used for recreational purposes;
  • Marijuana extracts used for medicinal drugs;
  • Forms of recreational use that don’t involve the entire plant;
  • and any other purposes for extracting materials from the plant.

However, this attempt at clarification has created a lot of legal confusion surrounding marijuana.

CSA Definition of Marijuana

In order to understand the legal implications of the memorandum it is important to know how the government defines marijuana.

Title 21 USC, the CSA defines marijuana as:

“All parts of the plant Cannabis sativa L., whether growing or not; the seeds thereof; the resin extracted from any part of such plant; and every compound, manufacture, salt, derivative, mixture, or preparation of such plant, its seeds or resin. Such term does not include the mature stalks of such plant, fiber produced from such stalks, oil or cake made from the seeds of such plant, any other compound, manufacture, salt, derivative, mixture, or preparation of such mature stalks (except the resin extracted therefrom), fiber, oil, or cake, or the sterilized seed of such plant which is incapable of germination.”

The updated drug code makes the marijuana plant as a whole fall under Drug Code 7360, but use of the marijuana extracts in any form (excluding those specifically listed) fall under Drug Code 7350.

Cannabinoids (CBD)

One of the major controversies of this clarification involved the extraction of CBD from the plant’s resin. It is not illegal to use the resin, the sticky organic substance exuded by the marijuana plant, of the fully matured stalk. Resin contains small traces of CBD.

marijuana

The question becomes, can you produce a CBD product that comes from solely the resin of the marijuana (hemp) stalk? According to the memo, the answer is no. In order to understand this conclusion, let’s take a further look at CBD and resin.

CBD is a cannabis compound (molecule) that provides all the medical benefits of the plant, without giving the user a “high” or “stoned” feeling. In fact, it can actually counteract the psychoactive effects of THC. CBD has been linked to giving relief for pain, inflammation, anxiety, seizures, spasms and several other conditions.

It can be used in the treatment of MS, arthritis, diabetes, alcoholism, chronic pain, schizophrenia, epilepsy, and even possibly, has anti-cancer properties. It’s no wonder the public wants to further explore its potential, but unfortunately you cannot legally experiment with this substance as a member of the general public.

While the use of resin is legal, the use of any CBD is not. When you extract resin from the plant, there are small traces of CBD in the resin (not enough to have any significant impact).

If someone could potentially extract enough CBD from the resin to make it useful, then it would fall under the definition of an illegal marijuana extract under Drug Code 7350. Essentially, you would be exploiting the legal product of the plant to reproduce the extract of the plant that is illegal. Regardless of how you produce the CBD it is still illegal.

This was determined in Hemp Industries Association v DEA (2004) and further clarified in the memorandum to Drug Code 7350. While a memorandum typically holds the weight of the law, a verification of that law through judicial precedence makes the memorandum even more powerful in a legal sense.

Drug Code 7350

While the Drug Code 7350 is unclear and further extends the reach of the DEA to measure marijuana extracts in products, it can also be seen as a step forward for the legalization of marijuana. The government has acknowledged that marijuana extracts have separate effects and implications than the plant as a whole.

This diversification allows for a new basis of legal challenges and ramifications. While it currently has no effect on the use and separation of CBD, it is at the very least an acknowledgement of the different uses of the marijuana plant extracts.

At the end of the day, do we need to worry too much? And the answer is, like the states have been ignoring the Federal government, I feel like we will also be ignoring the DEA on how they choose to classify and control, yet, another layer of cannabis.

Why choose a 420-friendly hotel?

August 22, 2016 by Colorado Cannabis Tours Leave a Comment

BECAUSE EVERYONE KNOWS WHAT YOU DID AND YOU WILL BE FINED FOR IT

It’s not your fault the smoke detector is screeching; somebody had to consume all this legal cannabis. The noisy device is onto you, though. It knows what you did. So you call the front desk.

“The…smoke detector…it seems to be going off,” you say to the annoyed front desk attendant, even though it is most definitely going off. The only question is: how is your friend sleeping through it? It is so loud. “I’m not sure why…”

They’re sending someone up. Quick, wave that magazine back and forth below the flashing light! Is this helping? What about the smell? Burn a bag of popcorn, you remember reading. But you don’t have any popcorn and this tiny room doesn’t have a microwave. The windows won’t open and there’s no fan. Scented candles do nothing.

Somehow the alarm stops just before you hear the knock. On the other side of the door stands an exhausted man from hotel security, obviously tired of these kinds of calls.

“Hi…sorry…I think we got it under control…it must have been the candles…” The look he returns lets you know that he, just like the smoke detector, is onto your bullshit.

“Sir, that is marijuana smoke. I could have you evicted, but I won’t do that. There is a penalty for smoking in the room. We’re going to add it to your bill. And no. More. Smoking.” You can tell he’s given this speech before. You thank him profusely. He nods and walks away, sure he’ll have to do the same thing a few more times this week. Because even though cannabis is legal in Colorado, Washington, Oregon, Alaska, and D.C., this is NOT a 420-friendly hotel.

They just happened to have free cookies. They give them to every guest. Even the ones who aren’t cool like you.

LEGAL, AT A COST

Still, what a time to be alive. The cops aren’t on their way, and security didn’t kick you out into the street in the middle of the night. Your friend never even woke up, so maybe she won’t notice the $250 fine. It’ll be a funny story to tell. You try to convince yourself of all these things so you can get some sleep. They stop serving free breakfast at 8 AM.

The penalty for smoking in your room doesn’t bother your friend. She thinks it’s kind of humorous, and since it was you who got caught it’s not like she has to pay. What does bother her, though, is that in your panic you flushed the cannabis down the toilet and now you need more. Of course, you’re both way too paranoid to ask anyone at the hotel for recommendations.

420-FRIENDLY HOTELS FOR THE CANNABIS CONNOISSEUR

Does it have to be this way? Absolutely not! Cannabis connoisseurs, you have options! For less than you’d pay in fines for a basic room on the outskirts of the city, Colorado Cannabis Tours can set up you with a luxury suite in a trendy hotel, centrally located in a classy part of town.

This is the first trip you’ve ever taken to a place where cannabis is legal, so why not treat yourself? You deserve the kind of accommodation that has made-to-order breakfast, not cold eggs. Instead of enduring the disapproving looks of security and front desk staff, you should be staying at a hotel whose concierge can direct you toward more cannabis and will be happy to rent you a vaporizer to use in your tastefully furnished room.

Traveling is stressful, and plane rides are bad for your back. If you book a luxury 420-friendly hotel, you can have an in-room, cannabis-infused massage before heading down to the milk and cookies happy hour in the gorgeous lobby. You’ll chat with likeminded tourists, swapping stories and weed, and perhaps sip a glass of wine or a custom cocktail in the renowned bistro bar. Then you can venture just steps out the door to the 16th Street Mall, where a free shuttle bus will take you to Denver’s finest restaurants, shops, and nightlife.

Isn’t that a better way to appreciate the freedom of legal pot? Doesn’t that sound more like a vacation?

YOU DESERVE BETTER

Don’t be too hard on yourself. You didn’t fully understand the law. You thought you could have your cannabis anywhere you wanted. But now you know better. Next time, you’ll let Colorado Cannabis Tours take care of you. They’ve done the research and have developed relationships with the country’s best 420-friendly hotels. Which means you’ll be able to relax and enjoy everything you came to experience. No more lying to security for you. You’re a responsible cannabis consumer with refined tastes, and you deserve better.

What it’s like on a Colorado Cannabis Tour

July 22, 2016 by Colorado Cannabis Tours 5 Comments

Each weekend, dozens of curious canna tourists round up at the downtown Denver Cheba Hut, a local sandwich spot. While heavy on stoner humor, this restaurant doesn’t actually sell any weed-infused products. Cheba Hut, a well-known Colorado staple, has their menu themed in a certain cannabis-centric vernacular, like a pinner Kush or the Acapulco gold. Guests are encouraged to grab food before the tour begins, as a little grub will give you staying power when the weed starts kicking in. You’ll definitely want to grab a giant Rice Krispy treat! They are a tasty treat when the munchies strike. As departure time rolls around, people file onto the luxury party buses, excited beyond belief, and usually a little nervous about what the foreign events of the day will bring.

As they get comfortable in their seats and make friends with their stoner tour companions, the music gets bumping and some joints usually get started in rotation. The guides take some time to introduce themselves, and go over the ins and outs of consuming cannabis at high altitudes. Amidst the anticipation, people often forget that being a mile above sea level changes your body chemistry, including your ability to metabolize things like cannabis and alcohol. Using these substances at high altitudes affects everyone a little differently.  At CCT, we want to make sure you have the most enjoyable experience possible, so please imbibe cautiously and responsibly.

The time spent on the bus in between the stops is where the real magic happens. This is where get to know your fellow pot smokers. People on the bus share strain stories, edible dosing advice, favorite brands, where they got their vape pen, or how their arthritis has been comfortably less noticeable since their weed vacation began. As the bus rolls down the Colorado highway, the bong is passed, and a video of stoner friendly footage plays across the large screen. Sometimes it’s good to have some cinematic eye candy when people’s social skills take a turn for the more introspective. Strangers make new friends as they share buds, ask questions, and mingle with their cohorts on this adventure. Having laidback conversations about cannabis, and maybe broadening their horizons a little bit further. Experiences like this are the first for a lot of people in the mainstream possibilities of cannabis culture. When the timid grandmother from Ohio starts taking bong rips next to the studious investors from Alaska, you know it’s an exciting time to be exploring the weed industry.

Visitors from all walks of life come through Denver to check out the wild world of weed, and we like to show people the best of what the industry has to offer.

As the crowd settles in for an experience that will likely change their view on this humble plant forever, we make our way around the mile high city. People often feel a little surrealism on the tour, as smoking pot has been so hush-hush in a lot of our society. Being able to share your toke without stigma or judgment gives a sense of normalcy to the whole experience that people love.

Our grow tour touts one of the biggest indoor grows in Colorado. And our expert guides explain the ins and outs of commercially grown cannabis, from cloning and nutrients to harvesting and curing. Questions are welcomed, and our tours get an up close and personal view of some live cannabis plants! After a little time to shop at the onsite dispensary, guests make their way back on to the bus and off to the rest of the stops on their tour.

The glass-blowing demonstration is always a fun part of the tour. It’s not often that people get to see this underground art, and experience the talent and effort that goes into every piece. Not only do our tours get to see the entire process of making a glass piece, they have the opportunity to support local artists, and usually find a unique (and useful) souvenir to commemorate their cannabis tour.

As the afternoon winds down, the bus makes its way through busy streets of Denver. 4:20pm approaches, and a group of hazy bus riders zen out to The Who as it wades through the ever increasing traffic that is downtown. We make our way back to Cheba Hut, and everyone is reminded to collect their belongings, purchases, and to keep their experience close. I always have to thank people for taking a tour, and trying out a foray into cannabis culture. It’s a brand new world.  It can be exciting and scary as this isn’t the same world of weed you’re probably used to. Here in Colorado, we are trying to do things right, and we want to help you learn everything you want to know about cannabis culture. So give us a call, or a visit, and come see something you haven’t seen before.

Marijuana Missionaries

July 13, 2016 by CCT Staff Leave a Comment

Marijuana Missionary

If you’re reading this, you’ve probably experienced the feeling of connectedness and spirituality that arises after that first toke of cannabis. And if you’ve consumed regularly with a group of friends, you’ve probably noticed that you collectively adopt certain rituals when smoking together. Call it history and human nature. We like to assemble and get high together.  Occasionally we like to spread the word of our experiences with others, although bring a missionary for marijuana is still pretty rare. The link between ritual, cannabis and spirituality throughout history and culture is nothing new.  So it should come as no surprise that now there is an official church organized around cannabis, the First Cannabis Church of Logic and Reason.

When I first spoke to Jeremy Hall, my first question to him was to ask about his religious background. He is originally from Tennessee, and grew up in an “extremely Christian” creationist household, where the Bible was taken literally. Although he enjoyed the community and fellowship of the church he attended, he started thinking for himself at the age of eleven, and began a difficult journey of undoing the programming from his early youth. He started studying all religion, but never found another one that matched his personal beliefs. At a certain point, he said, he decided to just be okay with his own spirituality. And this premise is what the First Cannabis Church of Logic and Reason is founded on.

Jeremy is an ordained minister of the Universal Life Church, as well as a Pastafarian.  He claims that he did not start the FCCLR with the intention of being rich and famous, but in order to redefine church in the same vein as redefining cannabis. He understands that going to church may not be something a lot of people look forward to, so he started his organization as an alternative to the typical requirements of church where parishioners are expected to have a specific set of beliefs. He wants to promote a concept of theology that is inclusive, and that encourages people with similar views to “gather in fellowship”.

Cannabis is central to his church, because he believes that the plant promotes peace. When he was 16 he began consuming cannabis daily, and has continued ever since. In addition to consuming for spiritual and recreational reasons, Jeremy also uses cannabis medicinally. He and his wife moved to Michigan in order to take advantage of medical marijuana laws, so that they could grow cannabis to treat his wife’s lupus and his own chronic headaches. They donate their excess crop to the community.

No tithing or revenue is required from members of the church. But he is exploring ways to generate revenue in order to stay in existence. This may include eventually charging people to become an ordained minister by the church, (similar to The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster). Reverend Hall says it is far too early in the beginning stages to know what it will all look like yet. “We need to get through at least the 2nd service”.

Parishioners of the church haven’t settled on a name yet. There are plans to send out a poll through SurveyMonkey to figure out the best name. Meetings in Lansing are temporarily being held in a space donated by the local Farmer’s Market. Lansing allows adults over 21 to lawfully consume cannabis on private property. This could technically allow the church to donate cannabis and allow people to smoke during services, but for now they wish to remain respectful and only allow med card holders to do so in a separate space.

Components of a Cannabis Church

It turns out that the First  Cannabis Church of Logic and Reasoning isn’t actually the first after all. There is a Cannabis Church in California, and the more well-known Cannaterians of Indiana. Jeremy says they provided inspiration for his own church.  The main difference between the Cannaterians and his own church is that since the City of Lansing allows recreational consumption of cannabis for adults over 21, it implicitly allows for his parishioners to consume cannabis. In Indiana cannabis is still illegal, so the Cannetarians had to establish their church as a way for their members to even access cannabis. Jeremy said he was grateful that this allows the focus of his church to be about doing good.

Their are certain components of any genuine church.  Here are how the FCCLR and the Cannetarians compare:

Pastoral leaders:

The First Cannabis Church of Logic and Reasoning is led by the Reverend Jeremy Hall. The Cannetarian congregation has “poohbahs” and ministers.

Tithing:

If you want to be a Cannaterian, plan on paying $4.20 a month. This gets you a membership card that doesn’t provide much other than bragging rights.  No tithing is required to be a member of the FCCLR. Both have a place to worship, although the FCCLR is currently looking for a permanent home.

Moral Code that addresses moral and existential concerns:

Church Codes

It should be noted that “thou shall not be an internet troll” is clearly the best commandment ever written.

But is a Church Necessary?

When I was able to interview Jeremy, I was pleased to find out that he and I had similar religious backgrounds. He had broken out of a deeply indoctrinated religion in his youth, and had confronted the programming that independent thinking meant condemnation to Hell. Being an ex-Mormon, I can relate to how soul-crushing that is for a person, and I have tremendous respect for Jeremy and his goals. His motivations seem to be completely genuine, and I’m impressed that he embraces the scientific method as a central tenet of the religion he has founded.

But the skeptic in me wonders whether these good intentions will be sustainable over time. Is there really a need to worship cannabis and be together? History shows that once religion becomes organized, humans tend to lose sight of the reasons why they started the church in the first place. Here’s hoping this latest church keeps the faith.

Why Vaping Won’t Stop Joint Smoking.

March 28, 2016 by Brittany Driver Leave a Comment

In early March I finally saw an article I’d been waiting to see for some time. One that really spoke to my point of view on a particular subject. And there it was, on cannabis centric media website Civilized, In Defense of Joints: 7 Reasons Vaping Won’t Replace Smoking.

I was ecstatic -no -beyond thrilled to see this article. Because while I know vaping is generally accepted as the safest way ingest cannabis, I do NOT think it will wipe out the decades – no – centuries old tradition of smoking a fatty. It just will not happen.

Just isn’t the same as smoking a joint.

John Wenzel of The Cannabist put it in his own words in an article published in 2014 entitled Why Vaping Is The Dumbest Thing Ever. In it, Wenzel laments on how the word itself, “vape” irritates him and mentions that the high is not nearly as powerful as when one smokes the herb. I tend to agree. Though I also realize cannabis is very much a “To Each Their Own” kind of situation, I just know what I prefer.

Here are our 3 favorites of the 7 reasons Civilized (and I ) think that vaping will NOT replace smoking.

1. “The Low Overhead”

Vape pens aren’t cheap. Oil cartridges aren’t cheap. And who knows what the hell they are mixing with it to keep it all runny and viscous like that.  Just sayin. Flower is much less expensive and papers or a sturdy pipe are  both budget buys.

2. “The Ritual”

Rolling a joint is not something everyone can do, but for those who can the ritual is a much appreciated moment in the day. Whether it takes you 1 minutes or 10, each step of the rolling process is a chance to take a break out of the day and relax.

3. “Multi-Sensory Engagement”

“Rolling a joint engages all five senses: from the smell of ground herb, to its sensation between your fingers, to the the crinkle of the paper and flick of the lighter, to the taste of the green as you inhale, it’s a full-body experience. That’s what makes marijuana so enticing – that sense of generous indulgence.”

5 Celebrities That MIGHT Be Getting Rich Off Legal Weed

March 24, 2016 by Brittany Driver Leave a Comment

We don’t know these celebrities LIVES…but chances are these folks are raking in the dough sooner or later thanks to LEGAL cannabis. Who do you think has a shot at getting it right?

1. Rose McGowan

Miss Rose McGowan has been doing her own thing for years, but has really been going for it lately. A recent quote from PageSix proves just that. The actress told the media outlet “I’m not going into the marijuana business — I am already in it, as an investor.” Think about that next time you buy an eighth…Rose McGowan might have grown it.

2. Melissa Etheridge

Melissa-Etheridge-Cannabis-Wine-Cancer-Survivor

Longtime lady rocker Melissa Etheridge was very public about her battle with cancer. And then she was very public about her use of cannabis to combat the negative effects the disease and treatment had on her body, mind and soul and we applaud her for that. Now Melissa is giving back in her own way by producing a cannabis infused wine. Sounds like a pretty effective way for concert goers drunk and stoned, watch out!

3. Snoop Dogg

Leafs-By-Snoop-Dogg

Snoop Dogg is perhaps one of the more obvious celebrities to try their hand at selling cannabis. The Doggfather has been rhyming about pot for ages now and one would think he’d be the kind of guy to take a risk like getting involved in the legal weed game. Leafs by Snoop launched in 2015 and shows no plans of stopping anytime soon.

4. Tommy Chong

Tommy-Chong-Bong-Papers-Cancer-Survivor

Duh. Tommy is another fairly obvious famous face to mix business with pleasure. Chong was well known for his Chong Bongs in the day and ultimately spent some time in the slammer for paraphernalia sales. But by that time he already had a recurring role as Hyde’s stoner dad on that 70’s show and it was waiting for him when he got out of jail. They guy is on his second bout of cancer and treating with cannabis oil “like crazy”. He’s making money on appearances and signature products like this rolling machine.

5. Willie Nelson

Country-Star-Willie-Nelson-Willies-Reserve

Oh Willie, Willie, Willie. Of all the above listed folks Willie Nelson appears the least likely – yet somehow the most trustworthy – to start his own cannabis business. How many guys make it a point to start their own line of cannabis products at age 82? But Willie’s well known love for marijuana (check out his book Roll Me Up and Smoke Me When I Die) and his sincerity to share that love with others birthed Willie’s Reserve, a cannabis company set for launch (this year?). We can’t wait to try some of his favorite strains. Ye-Haw.

7 Wonders of the Weed Mecca or How We Upped Our Denver 420 Game

With this year’s usual 4/20 Colorado Cannabis Cup being held in California instead (there will still be an awards presentation and a concert from High Times on 4/19), we at Colorado Cannabis Tours wanted to do everything we could to make sure the party continued as usual in our fair capital city of Denver. We already had plans to add several extra time slots for our famous cannabis tours and we added extra nights to our Puff Pass and Paint and cannabis cooking class offerings. But we wanted to do more. Because its the High Holidaze, right?

We have 7 (SEVEN!) new and exciting activities for this years 4/20 celebration. Check out our latest 7 wonders below.

1. Puff, Pass and Pottery

Remember getting busted in art class constructing a ceramic bong? Maybe you called it a vase and didn’t get detention… well worry no more friends! Join local expert ceramic artist Jessa Decker-Smith for a 2-hour 420 friendly Pottery session. Design ashtray, pipe or other creative piece of art with personalized instruction from the artist, then add your own twist with customized coloring and glaze. Kiln firing is included, pieces are available for pick-up/shipping no more than 10 days after the session. Extra fees do apply for shipping expenses.

2. Stoner Cinema
